What AI means for work in New Zealand

63.6% of employed New Zealanders, about 1,669,000 people, work in desk-based roles: the managers, professionals, admin and sales staff whose tasks AI assistants help with most.

That share ranges from 71.1% in Wellington to 54.2% in West Coast, and much further between towns. Every region, district and town page on this site shows its own figures, with what they mean for Claude training.

    A hands-on start for everyone on the team: good prompts, Projects, files and artifacts, using your own work as the examples.

    For: Anyone who writes, reads or analyses documents for a living. No technical background needed.

    Claude team rollout

    Moving from a few enthusiasts to a whole team: plan choice, Projects structure, usage guidelines, connectors and champions.

    For: Managers, operations leads and whoever will own Claude inside the business.

    Claude Code and MCP for developers

    For developers and technical teams: agentic coding with Claude Code, project memory, building MCP servers and the Claude API.

    For: Software developers, data engineers and technical leads.

    We ask for a few real, non-sensitive examples first. People practise on the reports, policies and correspondence they write every week.

  • We say when not to use it

    Independent means we will tell you when a different tool, a template, or no AI at all is the better answer.

    Every figure on this site comes from Stats NZ or a cited source, with the method one click away. We do not publish testimonials we cannot show you.

Which plan? For most small and medium teams, Claude Team: shared Projects, admin controls, and business terms that keep your data out of model training by default. Sole traders can start on Pro.

Pro or Max
Individuals and sole traders. Good for learning, but no shared admin or central billing.
Team
Most small and medium teams. Shared Projects, admin controls, and business terms under which your data is not used for model training by default.
Enterprise
Larger organisations that need SSO, audit logs, bigger context and tighter data controls.
API and Claude Code
Developers building on Claude or using Claude Code with an API key or a team plan.

Training is delivered by practitioners from TheColab, New Zealand’s community of people building with AI. TheColab also runs ChatGPT training and Microsoft Copilot training.

Is this training run by Anthropic?

No. This is independent training from practitioners in TheColab community. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Anthropic.

Do we need Claude accounts before the session?

It helps. Free accounts are fine for a foundations workshop. For team rollouts we will talk through whether Pro, Team or Enterprise suits you before anyone buys anything.

Is our data used to train Claude?

Under Anthropic’s commercial terms, which cover Team, Enterprise and the API, customer data is not used for model training by default. Consumer plans have their own settings. We cover how to check this, and what not to paste in, in every course.

Can non-technical staff learn Claude Code?

Claude Code is aimed at developers. Non-technical teams get more from Projects, artifacts and connectors, and those are what the foundations and rollout courses cover.
